It was 16 years ago that Sydney’s original honky tonkin’ alt country/cow-punk/roots wrangling misfits, The Parwills released their one and only album through Larrikin Records.

Fronted by guitarist, vocalist and songwriter, Mark Lucas, and winsome fiddler Kelli Cooper-Durant, theirs was a brief, bright, if somewhat star-crossed flame. Rejected by country radio as city slickers with attitude, and restrained from touring by small children and other animals, they blazed a trail of broken chairs and empty bottles through the handful of local venues that’d put up with them, ultimately imploding in the midst of album number two, but not without leaving a lot of love and sticky residue in the room.

Of course the members of the band went on to bigger and brighter things- Kelli joined the infamous Prickles & continues to saw away in occasionally angelic fits of abandon; after borrowing Mark’s mandolin for a couple of years, Glenn has become not only a finer guitar player (is that possible?) but also one of Australia’s finest mandolin pickers; Johnny Jessup returned to his Goth roots in Canberra where he regularly frightens his neighbours even without the make-up; Mark persists in nurturing an ever-budding career as the nation’s most obscure sensitive singer-songwriter; Bronny did the sea-change thing & moved up the coast, & Vick the Pick moved to Italy where she works in theatre, the others are all out there somewhere & so the story continued until…
Well…they’re back, to celebrate survival into the 21st century and to prove, once again, that country music has an attitude problem as well as a powerful thirst.
